Everyone has that favorite pair of pants that have worn through, or that shirt that makes you look fantastic that has a rip in the side.
What do you do? Can it be saved?
If it is torn or ripped on a seam or in a place that is not visible, you can absolutely repair it. If is not worth your time or energy, then replace it, and donate the item to a worthy organization.
If the tear is in a place that is not on a seam, and cannot be invisible (in other words, where a patch can show through.) Then you need to decide how much you love it. If it can work around the house, or out exercising/running errands without being indecent, then keep it. But if not, bid a fond farewell and find a new love.
Along those lines, keep rotating your wardrobe. Turn all your hangers over to the other side and when you wear something, turn it back to the “right” side. After a month or two, take down all the hangers you have not turned and donate the clothing.
Now for the basics on repair.
Seam damage: If an item has a ripped seam, simply turn it inside out and sew (with basic in and out) along the seam line.
Patching: If there is a rip that is not on the seam, you may be able to patch it. Fabric stores sell iron on patches. IF you can find a color match, (and bring in the garment to the shop), then you can save the item.
